Altamont High School claimed the Class 1A Sectional track team championship as area runners advanced to the Class 1A State Meet Wednesday. The Indians tallied 114.5 points followed by Newton 90.5, Robinson 71.
Newton High School claimed the championship of its own Class 1A Girls Track Sectional Wednesday. The Eagles won with 93 points followed by Red Hill (Bridgeport) 80, Robinson 72.5, Marshall 60, Teutopolis 45.
Newton had only three first place finishers but the bulk of their scoring came in the other five places. The Eagles took nine seconds, five thirds, two fourths, a fifth and two sixths. Whitney Zumbahlen was a double event winner for Newton.
Teutopolis High School claimed the girls six-team meet while Altamont was the boys champion in track competition Monday. In the girls meet, the Wooden Shoes tallied 192.5 points followed by Effingham St.
Effingham High School trailed Neoga until the seventh when the Hearts tallied seven runs to claim an 11-5 baseball win Monday. The game was tied at 5-5 with EHS batting in the top of the seventh. Jack Blickem singled on the first pitch,
The National Trail Conference girls’ basketball coaches have made the following selections ... Kylee Phillips of Neoga was named to the Second Team, along with Olivia Campbell of Brownstown/St. Elmo and Laney Webster of South Central.
South Central was a winner in both seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball contests Tuesday. South Central defeated North Clay (Louisville), 23-13 in seventh-grade play. Jamalyn Logan led South Central with six points.
